How Many Cypher Avenue Members have you Met?

Two, hopefully more in the upcoming year as I’m I’m traveling more often. Internet has a way of flattening how we come off to others, and it’s always great to see how much more talented and charismatic squad are IRL. The amount of talent that comes through here is amazing. That’s what I really hoped to get out of hanging ‘round in these parts.



And that includes being down for meeting our white squad members. I might come off like Farrakhan but that’s a reflection of the daily shit that even black professional men like me go through in a shithole like Chicago, so don’t take it personal, I’m just venting.

Folks who meet me are probably surprised how laconic I am offline (talking to you @ColumbusGuy ha!)

 

I haven't met any though I'd like to possibly. I wanna see what they look like. Actually, I'd like too see what quite a few of the members look like & what they do on a daily basis, considering that there is an age gap on here. Idk how it would work overall though. I'm way more reserved in my personal life than I am on Cypher...that's for sure. The older members (45+) might be interesting to meet

I am definitely sure that I have met the most members off of Cypher Avenue for sure out of any of the other members on here since 2013.

I am not in contact with the majority of them as frequently as I used to be but the one that I am in contact with the most is a guy living in Atlanta whose name was "Ace of Hearts" when all Cypher Avenue had was the Activity Stream! S/O to @Nick Delmacy for improving the site!

Back in late 2013, I started message several members one on one with private messages and I got to know them each little by little. Then we began doing the Google Video chats. Everyone was grateful for those because it was a very unconventional way for them to meet other black gay men as opposed to a hookup app or a bar/club environment. We really just had great conversations about life, dating, relationships, coming out, urban popular culture, music and just plain goofing around. I miss those chats I even remember doing a Google Video chat with most of the native and first-generation Africans from Cypher Avenue. That was an amazing one!

But yeah anyway, most of the members I have met ended up moving to Atlanta some time back and that is where I have met with the most members all at one time. The most shocking meeting was when I was at a house gathering and I was approached by @Sean P because he recognized my picture/avatar from the website lol. It made me realize how small the world is. Even at that same party, I met an eye doctor that told me he heard about the site before and he knows two people that I know from the site one of them being @NikR which shocked me too! I still need to meet @NikR and @questforknowledge in person especially the latter because I met him back in 2014 via Skype. But yeah the majority of those who have came to Atlanta really ended up being actual friends (some even best friends) which is beautiful.

The thing I am the most grateful for is when I was really going through it back in 2014-2016 with my sexual orientation and self-identity that people were really there for me. Especially when I came out to my parents. They were there for me emotionally and some even offered to support me financially, which really let me know how blessed I was.

Out of everyone that I met from the site, I would say that meeting @JNH412 stood out to me the most. I remember when he came down for his Black Ph.D conference last October (2016) close to the end of the month and I met with him, @ControlledXaos , @Michael , @GeePee , and some others who were on the old site like Ace of Hearts. That weekend was amazing! We all had an amazing time and @JNH412 was so damn GOOFY and hilarious! But he is about his business too. He also has a HUGE range of emotions where he can be vulnerable like when we went to go see Moonlight with some people in ATL and then he can be very assertive and a matter-of-fact then he can be super goofy just be "super gay" (LOL) whenever he wants to just joke around like when he, Ace of Hearts and @Michael were together with me and other people watching Insecure and dancing around to 90s throwback hip-hop & R&B records.

I could go on and on but it has definitely been a pleasure meeting everyone. They've all been super cool and embracing to me.

 

@African King is def the unofficial head of Public Relations at Cypher Avenue. Can't think of a better squad member liaison to speak for the "brand" of the site in person. Always appreciated his efforts to not only defend what the site really is versus the perception, but also to step outside of his paranoid box and meet fellas for fellowship in "the lifestyle."

 

LOL you and everyone else say that! They always used to joke with me some years ago and even now that I am the Cypher Avenue ambassador! I just love bringing people together for fellowship and talking to people. I love networking and establishing connections and getting people's stories. I have learned and grown so much. I am shocked at myself. I remember back in late 2012 and early 2013 when I first stumbled upon Discreet City and Cypher Avenue and I see where I am now. I live my life and I am far less paranoid but I am smart about how I discreetly move.

Because I'm actually always down to travel, I might actually give @African King a run for having met the most members...

I've met 4 so far, mostly because of traveling @itsumoconfused, @acessential @Sean P, and @Champagne_Papi but he doesn't count because I knew his black ass since early college. I usually now consider my trip to any US city a success if I meet and hangout with anyone in the CA squad.

None. And I doubt I ever meet any either, except possibly Rico(he actually visits this area). Glad to see that so many on here have met and have taken advantage of the site to make real-life meaningful connections-the best feature of this site IMO-and one of the reasons I will continue to support it.

It is kinda like Bella Noche-where the hell else can you guys go? lol.

 

All the people I met were back in the Discreet City days and they were gone before we "transitioned" into our gender neutral Cypher Avenue body.

Maybe I ran them off, which is probably why I shouldn't meet anyone else.

But you never know with the lurkers and anonymity of the profiles, I could actually know a lot more members than I realize.

Not for nothing, I have also met quite a few people we cover on the site like the musicians and web series actors. And I saw Fly Young Red shopping in a Walgreens when I went to New Orleans.
