I like to try and give everybody their due respect. I can remember these artists as my first introduction to Black gay/bi singers. These ladies were/are out and proud. I was in middle school and astounded by how comfortable they were in their sexuality.

In all fairness though no one cares about lesbians, bisexual and bicurious women. Female homosexual activity is not considered a threat and even considered erotic by many straight men.

Well damn, Cyrus. Lol. I did at the time and wanted to speak on it. But, I hear what you are saying and agree. I just don't like the way you said it. But, for a 12yr old boy that was shielded from the gay lifestyle and taught it was a sin. That was a big deal for me. Since, we are in black history month wanted to shine the spotlight on them. I guess that's why I didn't get a lot of response from the thread on black female appreciation. It was easier to talk about what they did wrong than right.

My introduction to gay singers were church singers most notably B. Slade aka Tonex aka Antony Williams II. I really didn't think about them being openly gay until he came out I was naive and just thought they were just really creative. I also thought my attraction to men was merely admiration toward them and would go away lol. The 1st openly gay secular artist I heard about were Rahsaan Patterson, Donnie Johnson ("Could 9"), and Rahbi an underground artist from Atlanta

I actually like tonex better now that he has come out. Yes, great list. I had Donnie's CD but it just was boring to me. Thanks for responding.

We all learn and are introduced to our
"Homo" ways in some manner rather it be through Tracy and MO. Getting molested, watching porn, having 2 "daddies' etc. We're on a gay male website. Absolutely, but does that prevent us from mentoning the word female? That's what's fair. Let me talk about women every once a while. People say random shit every hour on the hour on here.

Yeah I know what I said probably came off a bit harsh but it's true. I was a teenager back in the 1990s so I clearly remember Tracy Chapman and Meshelle Ndegeocello. I respect their talent but even though lesbianism was not accepted as normal and still considered "sinful" there was still a clear double standard between that and male homosexuality. Which is why I said what I said.

Yeah, I agree with you. But, I've noticed that aggressiveness a lot on here from you on that subject. Lol. However, your thoughts and opinions are usually aligned with mine.

Oh yeah I love Rahsaan Patterson I love his Wine & Spirits album backin '08 (it came out in '07 but still). And funny thing is I didn't even know he was gay until like three years ago! Honestly! I just loved his music, and I'm kinda glad I found out in that order because it makes me appreciate him even more

Women have always had it easier to be gay or androgynous and non threatening in music. Melissa Etheridge, KD Lang for example.

I guess Monifah was just closeted (or maybe it was an open secret) for all intents and purposes back in the 90s but she was accepted. I think people alleged queen Latifah and MC Lyte are gay but are ok with it because their music doesn't really directly talk about SGL relationships. Their sexuality isn't the focus of what they did.

Black folks love Sam Smith but I don't think main stream rnb is checking for a black gay man who can sang. Rahsaan Patterson I have heard on the radio a few times on contemporary rnb stations. His Wonderful Christmas Time cover is dope tho.

Oh, I forgot all about k.d. and Melissa. I remember Sophie b.Hawkins was as well. I just loved that Tracy and MO were able to have a decent career inspite of. Although, mostly primarily from a white audience.

    Thanks guys for responding.
