I've never had that happen to me. At the phase of life I'm at now I'd probably bust out laughing. The older I get the more amusing I find people.

As a former serial dater, I've encountered this and worse.
I was always cordial and my personality being what it is, always managed to have a good time.

Close. I had one who reeked of half a bottle of some Walgreens imitation of some popular Cologne. It was over powering. I went through the date and had an ok time but there was no call back.

This example is just too much. I hate when people have nice/decent bodies but go out of their way to show it off when it's unnecessary. I can tell you have a nice build in your regular clothes. People don't have to go sheer, purposely tight, or plunging neck line for people to see the hard work and dedication to the gym.

 

This actually happened to me like 6 years ago. Met a guy on the chat lines, dope masculine voice, was very discreet due to his music career. We talked on the phone for hours. Planned to finally meet a couple days later.

I chose a local dive bar since I figured he'd want something private yet still public.

I wore my typical attire, a fitted cap and skateboard sneaks...and waited in the bar for him to arrive. When I tell you this dude showed up looking like he was in a Prince outfit and wearing some bright yellow boots, I lie to you not. And he had his curly hair out in a big Jewish permed Afro. He was technically a black guy but was mixed with at least 4 different things.

The dude was beautiful though, great features and skin, good convo... which is why I still kicked it w him.

It was kinda embarrassing in that bar though.

 

To know me is to know someone who has embarrassed himself in pretty much every ridiculous sitcomy way possible, so a few (actually, quite a lot more than a few) flamboyant dates was always more amusing.
I took dating on like a Forest Gump box o' chocolates. I knew beforehand that I wasn't going to get what I was expecting and I would meet them either at neutral places in the gayest part of the city or let them come here to my place.

 

I had my (before it was called a THOT) days
I never wore tight or too small clothes but I used to rock the adidas tear away pants, unbuttoned and every shirt or sweater was always unbuttoned or unzipped to show the (then) dark forest and of course nothing had sleeves.
I was like a black Carmine Raguzza.

Without a doubt.
White trendy places are the safest spaces in my opinion to meet.
The guys working are usually going to be overly flirtatious and sympathetic to you because you're the hot commodity and it will give them a notion that they may have a chance. Upshots, you're getting better drinks than normal and an ego stroke from your surrounding guys. Downsides are the date you don't want is more than likely going to have an increased attraction towards you.
Either way, it was always fun...for me at least.

Also nowadays everybody has a smartphone with a camera and Internet access, so I'd keep my car and liscence plate away from the direct meeting until there was an actual face to face sizing up first.

 

I remember meeting one guy who sent me his pics....& then when I met him it wasn't him at all...

Oiii, I played nice though & chatted with though he turned out to be a liar about other stuff. Can't deal with all that...

If that guy at the top showed up, I'd probably ask him where are the rest of his clothes at.

 

Yeah @Nick Delmacy I really appreciated Discreet City. @ockydub I was about to pick up these sheer see-through shirts at Macy's then i was like... NAH lmbo Discreet City would not approve of such foolishness. I am gay but not THAT gay. (insert Charlamagne Tha God villainous laugh here)

I think the best approach would be to poke and make jokes about it. I would say something like 'oh! I did not know you were bringing them milkshakes to the yard' or ' you did not have to give me a preview of sex, a sneak peek would have been better, i was still going to sleep with you' or stare at his nipples while he talks and then say 'oh sorry your eyes are up there'. Just to let him know you are not feeling his choice of clothing BUT not him as a person. Dating is hard and is like an interview, I can understand the need to please and impress. We would not leave the lounge to go walking however I will plan to meet up again to give it another shoot.

 

I have had a similar experience, but mine was worse considering that my date did not have a body like that. Dude tried to wear one of them skinny v-neck t-shirts (and it was lavender), but he wasn't skinny. I could tell, he was one of those people who weighed a lot (visible stretch marks and flabby "triceps"), lost a good bit and still have a ways to go, but got overconfident too fast. Not to be offensive, but dude "looked gay" in that shirt, so that was off-putting. Having refined my own way of dating dudes, I purposefully wanted to meet during lunch time so that time constraints could be enforced without feeling guilty, opted for a sandwich shop in order to avoid having to wait on food and met in a part of town where I knew I wouldn't run into any familiar faces. That masculine phone voice turned into a bitchy masculine gay voice with attitude (yall know what I'm talking about), so I was instantly ready to go after hello. But I am polite...AND he had my real phone number and picture, so i played it cool and didn't run out.

....what about you were talking to this dude online and then you lot started texting and calling, all of that yeh. So when you finally meet up for a date, he's wearing basketball shorts and those long socks with the adidas flip flops....would would you do?

And by date, I mean the sort of date where you're like, "I like you, you like me, let's meet up and have dinner"-date.

 

Lol, I wish I knew it was that kind of date....if I did, I wouldn't have let him take me to a dine-in restaurant.

Instead, I would have just took him to some wing spot and could have just chilled or talked in the car while we ate.

Now I'm all for lil hole in the wall joints for wings and fish tho. They have side tables.

Though I do think if a dude rolled up at the spot dressed in bball shorts, he probably has a junky bedroom, Madden and that 2k, an uncovered cup of red flavored Kool Aid in the fridge, several pairs of holey drawz, and several boxes of Ramen at home.

None of these are necessarily bad things, just what I'm imagining. Lol
