Man killed in Orlando mass shooting identified

One person was killed and five others were hurt in a shooting Saturday night, police said.

Nicolas was one of six people shot in a drive-by shooting on Conley Street late Saturday night. He died at the hospital.

His family was understandably too upset to speak to on camera Sunday, but one his four sisters told WESH 2 that her brother was a remarkable young man who had ambitions to help the Orlando community, where he grew up.

His family shared photos of Nicolas taken during a recent trip to the White House, where he represented the city for the president's My Brother's Keeper program.

Mayor Buddy Dyer, in a statement, said Gino played a critical role for the city of Orlando.

"(He helped) to reach some of our most at-risk youth and connect them to opportunity and successful futures," Dyer said. "He was a role model and an inspiration to many of the youth in our Parramore community and I know his good work will live on in the lives of those young people he touched."

His sister said losing Gino, the son of Haitian immigrants, cuts short a life of great promise and should serve as a call to stop senseless violence.

Five others were hurt in the gunfire. Another person, who hasn't been identified, is being treated for critical injuries. Four other people are nursing non-life-threatening wounds.


Orlando Police Department officers said witnesses have so far not been forthcoming about information regarding a suspect.
