I haven't paid much attention to this story but I did see a post on my fb by a church queen (he's not out but c'mon I know). NYE he said we're so worried about what she said about one sin when we only get one new years, tomorrows not promised, we could all leave the earth at 12AM so pray and blah blah blah.
Because she's a dope, FEMALE singer. You know how far some gays will go to defend a diva for anything short of a terrorist attack. If a male gospel singer said this NO gays would be trying to defend.
Same reason why I LOVE Azealia Banks, you don't want to dislike your favorite artist. Kim Burrell can sing her a** off and most gay idolize women with great vocals especially the church queens!
What she was saying essentially telling me that non-church folk simply don't get the message...and I'm like...it was pretty clear.
Yeah...her message was clear and rooted in scripture. I don't see how the message was missing anything. Gay=abomination=sin Who don't know this?
My facebook timeline is crucifying her. she isnt smart though. If you gonna create controversy at least have an album coming out because this is the most press she has ever gotten in her whole entire career
See I think what got her was performing on Ellen. That's why you don't see gospel artist on her show. For me its not a big surprise I know shes C.O.G.I.C. and what beliefs she has; I grew up in Pentecostalism myself so I done heard it all. I like her voice and her music. I don't agree with a lot of the religious dogma and stuff so I just have to agree to disagree. Most religious people and denominations believe the same thing she does any way. They just try to be PC about it. I really hope this doesn't deter ppl from seeing hidden figures movie. Lord knows the super zealous gays be trying to "protest" the movie because of its theme song.
This is one of the times I feel so out of the loop when it comes to gay culture specifically black gay culture
The same reason, I guess, why so many of them stand and sing in the choir behind the preacher who preachers against them sunday after sunday.
Even "Gay Christians" work out their theology and sexuality in different ways. I found about it when researching the Gay Christian Network. You have A & B sides of beliefs for gay Christians. Side A: those who believe that homosexual activity is not sinful, and who are in gay relationships or hope to be in one someday. Side B: those who believe that God does love gay people but does not accept homosexual activity and see their same-sex attractions as a temptation, and strive to live celibate lives (despite their casual gay sex slip ups). Some have the idea of one day "changing" or suppressing their 'gay ways" so that they can one day marry women and have kids. Side be are the ones who are mostly backing Kim Burrell. But I kind of saw this happening when they 1st announce she was coming in the show. I know someone was prob gong to find one of her anti-gay rants or bring up the fact shes COGIC a conservative denomination. Like I said before that's why gospel artist and other conservative religious folk don't come on her show. At the end of the day its Ellen's show and they know what Ellen's for. Plus it takes away from the focus of the movie.
I know a lot of the B's. I actually know a guy that I've known for awhile who has a teenage daughter. He hides behind that and does not consider himself gay...but sleeps primarily with men and watches gay porn but isn't gay because he has a daughter and sings in his church choir.
Beyoncé could pistol whip a baby on national TV and still have people talmbout "that baby must have disrespected her."
