X-Men: Apocalypse - Thoughts?

I thought it was the best X-film to date (not that the bar is that high.) If they could just get away from the overuse of Magneto, Wolverine, and Mystique, they might be able to actually develop the fifty-leven other X-Men and villains available.

 

It didn't really leave an impression with me.It wasn't a bad movie,just very blah.A lot of it felt like I was waiting for somethign to happen,and the rest was like retreads and call back to early films.The Xmen films haven't progressed to me since First Class and The Wolverine.Matthew Vaughn should've been allowed to continue with he rebooted vision.Singer is just doing more of the same.

 

My first comment on the boards (hi!), but since I just saw it yesterday I wanted to contribute. I agree that it wasn't awful, but it didn't really do anything either. My biggest gripes were (1) Apocalypse was the most single-note villain in the whole franchise, (2) we never got to see Jubillee's fireworks, and (3) Jennifer Lawrence's Mystique has no sex appeal whatsoever. But at least we were spared from Halle as Storm.

 

Did you just violate your spoiler rule? Agree on this. I also loved that Colonel Stryker just bounced in the middle of danger and suffered no repercussions.

 

I'm gonna have to catch a bootleg. No moolah and no friends that wanna go. But I just need to see what all the fuss is about.

 

I had higher expectations and was left disappointed, wanting them to do MORE.

Why was Mystique leading the X-men and saving Nightcrawler to recruit him? Why was Jubilee even there if they were just going to make her a lead-background character? So Cyclopse didn't care that Havoc is dead, where was the closure in that? Who the fuck is Nina? and so on..there's just too many questions.

However, Quicksilver did it again and Jean was great.

 

That girl sucked and Storm was done dirty YET again.

 

Indeed I did. It was a Goldilocks type movie for us, not good not bad, enjoyable.
My non spoiler take aways/criticisms

Jennifer Lawrence seemed bored the the whole time as Mystique.

Olivia Munn is actually a worse Psylocke than Halle Berry was as
Storm! She looked like she was confused in every scene she was in.

WTF was up with fey Caliban? The comic version should have been the fourth horseman instead of Psylocke!

Not a fan of Evan Peter's Quicksilver or Evan Peters as a actor, so everyone's favorite scene was my least.

Once Sophie Turner remembered she was Jean and not Sansa and practiced harder on her accent after the nightmare sequence, she did aight.

Michael Fassbender's Magneto was supposed to be in his 50's, we clearly have the same mutation.
His character development was the only really interesting one.

The actress who played Jubilee needed more screen time and some action scenes, she had the looks and the personality but no, let's go with boring Cyclops.

Angel/Archangel was also wasted.

Alexandra Shipp finally did Storm justice with what little they gave her.
Still mad about that they keep giving us bad wigs on Storm and now the stupid fu@king mohawk.

Finally Apocalypse, not as big of a disappointment as I expected but they should have rethought using him and probably gone with the Shadow King instead. It would have served the same purpose, used the same location and motivations but made more sense why Storm and Angel would flip flop like Mystique

 

Shadow King would have been a perfect wa to intoduce Storm,and it'd make more sense for him to have the psychic fight with Xavier.
I always blamed Halle's Storm on the writing/directing (even though I wouldnt have cast her for that role anyway).

I don't think even the filmmakers' are paying attention the ages the characters should be,they just wanna milk these actors for as long as possible like they did Hugh Jackman.If they were smart they would've given us those Jubliee scenes with the other younger mutants to actually evolve the franchise.The lack of progress in this film is my biggest issue with it.

The age thing has always been my biggest gripe from the first film and throughout the franchise.

 

I just watched this the other day, and I'll say one thing.....as f#$ked up as it is for movie producers, actors, etc....thank GOD for free movie sites, because I'de have been pissed had I actually paid to watch this. It wasn't overly terrible, but it wasn't anything special either. And I agree with @Ockydub, the only part that made me feel any type of "emotion" was Jean Grey releasing the Phoenix, and even that I felt was somewhat lack luster. Poor Storm, she just gets sh!tted on in every movie. Archangel was underused, and I feel like they just threw in a bunch of characters strictly for the hell of it. Apocalypse was pretty much what I garnered from the trailer, a disappointment. That voice, smh. Overall, I give it a C-.

And what you got against Storm's mohawk? LOL She really had a mohawk in the comics during the time that this movie was supposed to have taken place. I wasn't impressed by the character at all, but I will agree with other commentary that she did a f@#k of a lot better than Halle but, what can we do? In a perfect world, Iman Abdulmajid would be 40yrs younger and a great actress and would've been cast as Storm from jump but...it's w/e.

 

I was never a fan of the mohawk on Storm in the comics or on any of my old dates crotches either for that matter!

Yes! This also enabled me to skip through Wolverine's phoned-in random @ass scene.WHen the movie was over I was like "that's it?!".

 

Best part of the movie was the opening scene with the original four horsemen and it would have been more entertaining to see the X-men and brotherhood team up to fight them and apocalypse. Apocalypse was basically just a suped up Magneto in this film. In the comics
