I agree with the hair assessment, bushy beards wear me the fuck out. But in addition for me he seems hella tall. I have NEVER liked dudes that are too tall.
And maybe its also the looks and attitude he seems to give comes across as he also thinks he sexy. And their is nothing wrong with being confident, but for me it comes across as hella corny.

Interestingly, I just saw him here in BK a couple weeks ago. I was just like you and @ControlledXaos : he did absolutely 0 for me. I prob wouldn't have known who he was if he was sitting at the table next to me in some restaurant if he wasn't rocking that lil conk perm sitch at the time… But, after being dragged to his show (that I had 0 interest in), I was actually impressed. He looked good, AND he put on a good show.
It might have been the whole 'classic man'/suited and booted thing that made him come across overly confident to you, but he actually had a really laid back, artsy/pothead but entertaining vibe going on, on stage. A lot of audience interaction, and he seemed to just be having a good time. I can't deal w pretentiousness and/or a lack of humility, (which wouldn't be the craziest things to assume about him and his classic man perm), but I was pleasantly surprised to get the total opposite.
And he can't be any taller than 6'2. I'm 6' and he didn't look any taller than me.
