The Cypher Avenue team has never pretends to be non-biased when it came to openly gay black filmmakers Deondray Gossett and Quincy LeNear. Their television show and film series, The D.L. Chronicles is hands down our favorite and most authentic depictions of the gay experience for men of color.
On top of all that, they’ve managed to maintain a 17+ year relationship/friendship/partnership that proves the idea of “long term” is actually possible in the gay community. To finally make their bond official, they joined 33 other straight and gay couples during The Grammy Awards in a marriage ceremony to crescendo Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ performance of “Same Love.”
As the ceremony continued, Queen Latifah officiated the nuptials while Madonna performed “Open Your Heart.” Were these marriages official? According to Latifah, legally the ceremony was legit: “I had to be sworn in as an official. I’m not a minister.”
So the black gay filmmaking couple that can do no wrong in our eyes is now no longer living in sin…well…at least not living in sin to the “gay-friendly” Christians out there.
Congrats to them both!

Congraduations-Glad to hear some GOOD news that can be inspirational. Gives me hope to finding that special someone and making it official. DL Chronicles is by far the best gay black series I have in my collection.
Congratulations to the couple.
That picture of them crying is more than enough to send someone over the age. Congrats to them!
It was cool when I was watching the performance and I recognized them! I actually met them at one of their screenings and they were really cool.
Oh wow, I didn’t get a chance to watch the Grammys, but that is really awesome! I had no idea. Congratulations Deondray Gossett and Quincy LeNear!
Im happy for these guys. Owning the fact that gay men, even black ones, can make it work…and I didnt even make a bootleg, I PAID for the D.L. Chronicles, lol
It all seems a bit pretentious to me, but congrats for what it’s worth.
Great performance. The female lead was great. I love the song too.
Side note. Ill be man enough to admit that i teared up when they got married. pretty symbolic. i love seeing things like that. it was not to long ago that something like this wouldnt even be mentioned on national tv. baby steps.
Hmmm, okay.
