I don’t know if its the voice…I don’t know if its the great songwriting…I don’t know if its the sexy full beard…whatever it is, something about up and coming crooner Sam Dew has me sold from the jump.
Hailing from Chicago, Sam Dew has long worked behind the scenes with artists like Wale and Rihanna. He wrote and performed the hook to this 2013 Wale banger, “LoveHate Thing.”
In mid-2015 he stepped to the front of the stage by releasing Damn Sue, an electric 6 track EP giving us a taste of great things to come. The opening track of the EP, “Desperately” was even featured in a pivotal scene in Spike Lee’s polarizing expectation-crushing film Chi-Raq.

While the EP is dope, the Sam Dew track that made me a fan isn’t even on the record. The song “Drive” was featured on the Red Bull Sound Select website to promote Sam’s tour dates with the company last year. Unfortunately he had to cancel his Atlanta appearance once the Afropunk festival was rained out so I didn’t get the chance to hear him perform this song and others live.
I’m definitely a new stan for Sam Dew over here, joining the ranks of other on-the-come-up artists that we love here on Cypher Avenue like Chance The Rapper, Childish Gambino and more.

Heard about him years ago. Talented guy. He likes drugs during his creative process lol.
Handsome guy.
Gives me a little Miguel and D'Angelo
I think i liked this more than i should have. Really feeling Desperately and Reincarnation. And that falsetto on Victory :banderas: and when the bridge kicked in :rejoice:
I love hearing up and coming great singers. Hes giving me come of that old soul Curtis Mayfield, Ron Isley falsetto.
SAM DEW Has a soulful/rock edge and feel that's reminiscent of the old souls of Soul R&B Music. His music have a certain uniqueness and eccentricity to it like that of a Maxwell and D'Angelo. I'm sure we'll be hearing a lot from dude real soon. Good stuff! Thanks for sharing!
Sam Dew is that guy!! I been following dude since he was in the Atlanta group Cloudeater. Now that sound was crazy. Please, anybody go look up and listen to Decade by Cloudeater. Their version of Sabotage was beautiful also. Yo, this post just got me madd excited! I'm glad to see him stepping into his own sound without all the accompaniment. Dude lookin better than when he was in Cloudeater too!
Yeah the beard is def a better look on him:
