Fresh out of the oven, we present the latest episode of the popular new web series featuring gay men of color, “Freefall” directed by filmmaker Lamont Pierré. When we say fresh out of the oven, we mean FRESH…as in the “Hot Now” light is still flashing on this one. They literally just filmed the episode a couple days ago. For those not in the know, Freefall is about three everyday young men navigating though life, not being defined by their sexuality but also not denying it either. The series features a trio of handsome newcomers on the screen and competent talent behind the camera as well.

We had the opportunity to have an in-depth interview with Pierré about the series (full interview coming soon) and we were excited to hear that the upcoming episodes will contain more than the usual stereotypes of gay men. While the first episode seemed to contradict that idea, this new episode does a full 180° turn by giving us more background into the characters minds. Hopefully the writers don’t stray too far into the melodrama territory in an attempt to go against the “gay grain.” So far the series has potential but definitely still feels uneven and attempting to find itself.

Regardless of where they take the series, its great to see everyday gay characters on the screen with everyday struggles and obstacles. Be on the lookout for our exclusive interview with the showrunner Lamont Pierré where we discussed the state of black gay cinema, his series Freefall and Cypher Avenue’s unexpected connection to the show.
