In this podcast, Cypher Avenue founder Nick Delmacy once again gives us a solo pod full of personal stories, self reflection and introspective thought on being a black gay man. This time he tackles the Bible, Religion and the Ten Commandments.

I enjoyed this, though you simplified a few of them to the point of not meaning what they meant then, i.e. “coveting.” It’s not so much wanting to have the same kind of thing (a good looking boyfriend, a nice house,) but it’s literally wanting what your neighbor has (HIS boyfriend, HIS house.) Big difference there. But what many Christians tend to overlook with the 10 Commandments and Leviticus law is that these laws were specifically designed for the Israelites to follow to differentiate them as God’s chosen people and keep their culture from being destroyed by the various nations they conquered or were conquered by which is why so much emphasis is placed on worshipping only God Himself. The other thing they forget is that over time the laws and the people creating/enforcing them had became so corrupt and oppressive that everyone was basically doomed.
Jesus’s first mission was to actually reform the Law and fulfill it. It’s why the temple literally split in half when he died and he only gave one commandment himself which is very similar to the last Cypher Avenue one: Love your neighbor as you love yourself and love God with all your heart. You’d think it would be easy, but years of politically biased teachings have turned what he envisioned the Church to be into something else.
Good point. This basically affirms what we’ve all said many times before that many people cherry pick the Bible for their own needs and agenda.
As for the interpretations of the Commandments, I just read what it literally says in the book. Coveting another man’s woman was covered in length actually. If there was meaning that I left out it was because that explanation was not in the text. This is another problem with the use of the book, many people interpret the same scriptures in different ways. Adding meaning and subtext that doesn’t exist in the text.
I agree with you on adding and removing subtext. Part of the issue is that the languages the original passages in the Bible were written in were in high context (and archaic versions of) languages (Hebrew and Greek specifically) and translated into low-context languages multiple times. Even the King James version has slightly different meanings in certain passages when compared to the New International Version. This is why I’m glad our country separates religion and state. At least, on paper.
Great comment. Well informed. Christ is not the enemy. The ‘enemy’ came in after he went back to heaven and sowed the seeds of discord that have onlookers confused and baffled as to what Christianity is supposed to be.
Ultimately one has to truly be ‘inetrested’ in what the Bible has to say or teaches. Most that go to church aren’t even really interested . They want to go, hear a few things that suit them yet dont convict them and mainstream church conveniently feeds them the ‘milk’ as long they write a check and place it in the basket passed around three times before you leave. It’s all scandalous. And they don’t know, because they don’t read. And that’s a CHOICE in time management. People like Nick look at that hate and hypocrisy and rightly get disgusted. But it not the fault of God or the Bible. It’s government and religion and the masses blindly following them.
Jesus would not have an opinion ,especially a hateful one on what the State decides to do. The governments aren’t his property. If they want to marry cats and dogs it’s their business. Christ is neutral to all that. But churches at large don’t teach political neutrality and that’s why their adherents get all in their feelings over business that’s really not theirs as supposed believers . This very action is what will and is setting up their demise. They have their hands in a cookie jar Christ himself said stay out of.
So you have the ignorance of so called believers and the ignorance of those that just don’t know. But again it all points back to us INDIVIDUALLY because it’s a CHOICE NOT TO KNOW.
We are in the Information Age. Ignorance is a choice. And we will all be judged on what we chose to know or not to know. That’s how it gets DEEP. No one has an excuse.
You can turn on TV , walk right outside your home and see something is brewing. But it’s a choice to either bury your head in the sand or allow yourself to be distracted by the government itself through the media while they make agreements and pass laws that greatly affect your future, ieTPP while Obama is giving a speech about the charleston church shooting.
Everything is about government. A huge chess game. Game of thrones. Government affects all of our lives. And this is ultimately the issue. Religion lays in bed with the government to confuse the people. Control them.The hate by so called believers and the disdain of onlookers is the result of that relationship. All pushing forward the age of the anti-Christ.
We choose whose pawn we are going to be based on what we choose to KNOW and subsequently FOLLOW.

In the New Testament it does speak against the practice of sex with the same sex. See 1Corinthians 6:9-11. You can also reference the book of Jude and Romans chapter 1. If one does not repent from these practices or “actions” they cannot inherit Gods kingdom.
You can love the same sex all you want. God holds nothing against that. It’s just that SEX was designed to take place between a man and a woman MARRIED. Everything God says not to do, when we go on and do it, complicates things for human society at large.
If we’d all just adhere to that one moral standard of keeping sex between a married man and woman there’d be no rape, molestation, incest, bestiality, pedophilia, adultery. Sexually transmitted diseases . Illegitimate pregnancies etc, would virtually be eliminated. Sounds like a better world to me. And all based on sexual self control inspite of any predisposition engage in any of the above acts.
Anal fissures. Irritable bowels. Urinary tract infections. Not to mention that the penis is a vacuum and absorbs energies is good enough biological reason not to get hooked on what’s commonplace in homosexuality.
I have a gay predisposition. And I can’t argue with the fact that these sexual boundaries protect society at large. It’s not rocket science.
Bottom line is most don’t want to adhere to these standards for sexuality. It’s not the Creators problem or shortsightedness. It’s ultimately ours.
S/n we weren’t made to use condoms, that’s why all of us have dipped at least once raw. If only to put the head in. So safe sex doesn’t solve things either. No wills have safe sex all the time for their whole life.
Jesus spoke against and warned about the hypocritical ,loud mouthed , condescending supposed believers. They existed back then. They exist now.Nothing new. Just ignore them. If they were elevated in their consciousness,which takes work, they wouldn’t be saying the offensive things they say. Or be hypocritical . These people aren’t coming from a place of love. Their standing is no better with God. And they will be surprised when Christ denies them as the scriptures say he will. Self righteous hypocrites.
If one just takes the time to actually study the Bible many misconceptions and lies about it and what it teaches will be revealed. Religion and government have worked hand in hand to oppress people since the beginning of time. Revelation foretells that God is going to handle that. Religion being marginalized on all fronts now is bible prophecy being fullfilled. In our lifetime religion will be destroyed by the 8th king, the United Nations. And guess what? God is behind that coming event. See Revelation 17 and 18. Religion is the whore Babylon. The kings of the earth are the governments. The wild beast is the U.N. Do the math and see what you come up with. It’s going to be a mess, so be ready. He is giving us all fair warning and all the signs that’s coming. He wants a great multitude to survive this. Sounds fair to me.
Two issues were addressed with this topic basically, a lack of self control sexually and controlling the tongue. Two of the hardest things to do without spiritual discipline. But clearly things that must be done to have some peace in this world.
Just shake your head at these so called believers. They don’t have a clue. But I encourage you investigate the Bible a little deeper. You’d be surprised what’s there and what isn’t there. And that none of it is unreasonable considering everyone involved and all that is at stake.
Interesting. I must ask, do you try to suppress these homosexual tendencies you have? Why does homosexuality exist if it clearly is not a choice and sex was designed for two people of the opposite sex? How did God mean for homosexuals to live? Grow old and become old cat people? Marry the opposite sex and live a tortured life? What about asexuals? Do they need to get married and have sex because the bible encourages a certain lifestyle?
And in the case of STDs, diseases would find a way to be spread somehow. There’s no proof that sexually transmitted diseases would not have taken on some other form if sex out of wedlock did not exist. Disease is a form of population control, and whether we like it or not, the planet is becoming too populated. Either we reach the carrying capacity and hunger, or disease, or some other natural force sets in and reduces our numbers, or people stop having as many babies as they do now.
What is natural and what is unnatural is pretty hard to distinguish. You say rape, molestation, incest, beastiality, pedophilia, and adultery are all bad. But take a look at nature (the most natural place you can be in). All of this stuff happens. All. The. Time. Animals commit all these “sins”, including homosexuality and inter-species sex. So do they go to hell too?
I’ll try to answer each question from a biblical perspective one by one.
1). For nearly everyone no matter what vice it is you are attempting to overcome or ‘repent’ from, it al,oat always starts as suppression. But as most of us have observed with ourselves or others, that is only temporary at best. It’s a start,but not the end goal.
The end goal is to “hate what is bad” (Psalm 97:10)
Clearly that is not automatic. For most it only results from a higher level of consciousness in regards to the consequences on a personal level and a collective basis of ones actions. Most of us have to go to the school of hard knocks. Learn the hard way. Simply being tired of the negative outcomes of in this case sex outside of marriage. You eventually gain an understanding and appreciation on multiple levels, physical ,spiritual, emotional, energetic on the limit of sex to the opposite sex and married. That appreciation and level of understanding is the end goal. The obedience is not blind.
Since you asked if I suppress, I’ll explain that at this point in my journey ,no. I’ve been there, done it all. It’s simply just not what I want anymore. The consequences that is.
I used to be a hoe. On purpose. Relationships were a joke to me. And I was addicted to sex and the game. But that’s a road going nowhere. And I don’t want to be that over the hill ,jaded dude at the next card set. Nor that over the hill sponsor on Viagra competing with tighter butts and harder dicks desperately financing my boy toy with daddy issues.
Once I explored relationships ‘to grow’,because with the hoe life by nature you have to keep guarded, I experienced condomless sex for over two years. Which I thoroughly enjoyed minus the worries over the risk. After that I’m simply not interested in going back to condoms.
Relationships…. ??? I’ve come to terms with the fact that relationships are spiritual entities. They have to be managed and nurtured spiritually to survive. No way around that. At least one that’s based on love and not dysfunctional, codependent or simply convenient for the moment sexually or financially. Been there done that. In my case the guys I’m really attracted to are edgy like myself and when either of us are caught slipping it’s ugly. Tired of the drama or thinking about it. Can’t help what I’m attracted to for real. But I can avoid an ongoing sexual relationship with my true type and all the drama that comes with that.
The only other option is to be a serial dater. Then I’m back at square one. The moderate … Hoe. Four dudes a year if you go by the 90 day life span of most gay affairs. That adds up. Goes nowhere emotionally or financially. And I’m about the come up spiritually or financially. Preferably both.
In my opinion you’re either abstinent, in a relationship or just out there. Abstinence is safer for me because I don’t want herpes, AIDS, or HPV in my throat, warts anywhere or a “rosebud”.
So this gridlock has forced my consciousness to consider and take a spiritual path and my past experience moves me beyond merely suppressing carnal desire. I had to get to the point of “hating what is bad” for me.
I don’t want what’s random and potentially harmful physically or emotionally. I’m done with it. I think ahead now when the temptation arises. I get in he moment ,meaning get a grip, stop fantasizing and think about the consequences of any particular action. Jesus spoke of this metaphysic response to lustful thoughts at the sermon on the mount . Matthew 5:28
Ultimately since I want LOVE , I have to do what love does and doesn’t do on GODS terms because He is love. So in the end it’s more about what I truly want. Not what I need to avoid. I’m not walking around thinking I’m missing something. Been there, done enough to let me know that fire truly is HOT. And I need water , love in my life. And Jesus shows me how to get that. Be that.
Why does homosexuality exist?
It’s why any other sin exists. We are imperfect. Thank Adam and Eve for choosing to decide for themselves what is right and wrong.
The first recorded act of homo sex biblically was way back in Genesis with Noah of all people and his grandson Canaan. Noah was drunk and things went down unsuspectingly with his grandson. The details were spared. But that family line was cursed and ultimately exterminated in time.
All types of things may exist in the animal world ,but we were designed “in Gods image” . So our state of awareness has potential higher than an animals. We are designed to be aware of the personal and collective consequences of our actions. We are one. The very problem with the world now and since Genesis is everyone choosing their own set of morals. God is simply allowing this experiment to play itself out.
Case in point. Canaan descendants were all the nations the occupied the promised land the Isrealites were eventually to take over. Their beliefs were literally based o doing whatever you wanted to do sexually. God pretty much told Abraham that I’m giving you the land now , we will just wait a few hundred years because at the rate they are going and all that they are doing , they are going to wipe themselves out anyway . So we will let your progeny grow and expand while they naturally kill themselves off as well as get considerably weaker . While you grow as a nation and I train this nation to occupy this land later.
Sin is missing the mark. Not fulfilling the purpose. Whatever doesn’t fulfill its purpose eventually dies off anyway. Right?
Homosexuality ,an ACTION, exists because people want to do it.
How did God mean homosexuals to live?
All Christians no matter ones predisposition to any type of sexual sin need to aspire to chasity. It’s actually easier to do it once you get past a certain time period with no porn and no mastubation.
The scriptural basis for this is at Collosians 3:5. You can dreaded your body members with conscious abstinence preferably with intent deepen your relationship with God or increase your awareness spiritually.

Once your flow of energy is reversed north and not habitually going south , the effort at chasity is far easier. And you think twice even more so in the midst of temptation ,which will always exist. You’ll have little desire to deplete your energy in anyway you realize won’t be worth it. This varies from person to person depending on their current energetic state and maintenance . I went mastubation free for a full year ,years ago. So I know that it is possible. I failed at the walk eventually because I was lacking a critical feature…. Touch. “feeling loved”. That’s when I realized that there is a difference between sexual desire and the real God given need for affection. If I couldn’t get a hold of the affection I needed sufficient for me ,somehow some way, for me that meant I had more work to do on my consciousness in that area. I had to be open to the concept. I had to develop the courage to demand it. And not just settle for sex to feel loved. This is where family, friends or an equally conscious partner come into play. Hugs , kisses , cuddling , are a major factor in healthy human existence. I had to get over any insecurities as a man in seeking that out,,without sex.
Once you get to this point. You can’t see yourself sucking a random dick. Let alone get penetrated or penetrate someone that you have no idea is just with you for sex. Or that you hardly know.
There’s a proverb that says , “but to the hungry, even what is bitter tastes sweet”
I’m not ‘hungry’ anymore. Many call it ‘thirsty’ today. I keep myself In a position where my ‘cup is full’.
Do I have occasional lust filled thoughts? Yes. As a human I have an innate urge to procreate. But I understand that it’s energy and I direct it into creativity. I’m not lacking feeling love on any level in my life.
In this situation I created I don’t feel I’m missing anything. I went to the school of hard knocks already. Thanking God I came out in one piece and above ground with only minimal emotional scars to mention.
Marry the opposite sex and live a tortured life?
God stands for truth and he wants people to be true to themselves. The sooner you live your truth ,the sooner you can see if that’s the truth you want to continue living. Why get married if you know you’re going to be miserable? Try to find your happiness with a man and see how that works for you. You may conclude that’s not what you want either after all. God wouldn’t want you dragging an unsuspecting female in holy matrimony in your confusion just to save face in the public eye. Your Truth at that moment will eventually rear its head.
Interestingly the bible warns people that you are better off single. Married folks WILL have problems. Even more so if neither are Christlike . 1Corinthians 7:1,2,27,28.
So it’s a pick your battle situation. The implication is that life can be more of a struggle ,,, married. Better to resolve any issues you think you have before getting married than bring all of that baggage to a marriage. That’s torture.
Ideally I think one should get the gay lifestyle out of their system before getting married. Being resolved to be faithful sexually when married yet keep the need they have for male bonding nurtured in a way that respects his marriage. Keep your cup ‘full’. Then you won’t be ‘thirsty’.
All of this is spiritual work. Will power won’t do.
Asexuals are probably better off than anyone. No single drama having sex. No married drama having sex. The bible calls singleness in a chaste way ,a gift. Matthew 19:10-12.
Your focus and energy can go toward your spiritual development and creativity without much distraction. Or in the case of being sexual with your singleness,,complications.
Animals don’t have the prospect of eternal life either on earth or heaven. They aren’t required to have a moral standard. They do what that do. They die. That’s it. On the other hand humans were designed to operate on a spiritual plane. Matthew 6:25-33. We can choose by free will to operate on that plane or not. The choice will determine our future .
“If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.” Leviticus (20)(13)
Too many black gay men use the bible to attack and shame other black gay men. It would be funny if it wasn’t so pathetic: how can you attack/shame someone for being the same thing you are, which is gay? I have seen black gay men get into bitter arguments with each other (“I know my bible”) over the correct interpretation of some bible passage.
True story: 2 black gay men (both very talented) got into an argument at work over some bible scriptures most likely passages dealing with homosexuality. To make matters worse, they left an electronic trail: they sent inflammatory emails to each other using their work computers. They were both eventually fired. There were other factors involved in their firings but “harassing” each other using work computers was a very big part of their dismissals.
I gave the aforementioned example to show how vehement some black gay men are about their “religion”. In this case, it cost the “combatants” their livelihoods. It took the older one (who should have known better), and who I’m friends with, years to find a permanent job with benefits. For at least two years, he did not take his HIV meds because he had no medical insurance. I don’t know what happened to the other guy. All this over “the bible”.
I have had more than one black gay man tell me that he had “repented” and that I needed to “get right” with god if I wanted to avoid hellfire and damnation. And the funny thing is that these black gay men (we call them “church queens” in our neck of the woods) are usually the biggest “whores” around. lol I mean how many times do you get to “repent” before god says enough! lol
These conversations with black gay men are disturbing to say the least. I long ago learned to shut these conversations down by saying I’m not a believer. Why do some black gay men do this? If you want to believe a cave man fairy tale that’s certainly your right but why go to war with other black gay men who don’t think the way you do? My guess is that the self hatred among many black gay men is profound and is a key reason why many black gay men can’t get along or establish long-term relationships/marriages with other gay men.
I’m going to end this by saying that this is an excellent (and very funny) pod cast. As a confirmed agnostic, I enjoyed the humor in which you, Nick, dissected religion and the 10 commandments. I just thought I would share something that has bothered me about some religiously inclined black gay men for years.
The bible (King James version) clearly says in Leviticus (20)(13) that practicing homosexuals should be put to death: in other words eliminated, executed, murdered, wiped off the face of the earth. Sort of like what Hitler did to the Jews in Nazi Germany.
I have to ask this question and I don’t care if some of you get mad. Why do so many otherwise intelligent black gay men “believe” in a document (the bible) that calls for their wholesale destruction? Does this make any kind of sense to you?
There is some EXTREME self-hatred going on in the psyche of any black gay man who believes this BS. Personally, I hope whoever wrote Leviticus (20)(13) died a horrible death. I hope he was eaten ALIVE by lions. For real. The writer of that text has caused untold suffering, misery and DEATH for gay people throughout the world for literally thousands of years.
Again, why do so many intelligent black gay men, in the modern world, “believe” in a document (the bible) that calls for, in no uncertain terms, their violent execution just for being who they are? I don’t care what your mama/grandmamma/aunties taught you when you were a young pup growing up. I don’t care what you learned in church/Sunday School. You’re an adult now. What do YOU think? Don’t everyone answer at once.
The book of Laws, Leviticus ,was made for a nation that really had no laws or moral code. They were slaves and had to be taught standards to adhere to that were in contrast to surrounding nations and Egypt who they were subject to for hundreds of years.
The law forbidding sex between two men served to nip proliferation of practices that would damage the community at large in the bud. Christ would come later with the law of LOVE through that nation in time. His teachings would allow for a person to “voluntarily “work on their consciousness to aspire to a moral standard that would fulfill Gods purpose. A ‘spiritual’ practice with more permanent results in contrast to just SUPPRESSING carnal desire.
Until then , the moral code was enforced on the nation through whom the Christ would come. And it would protect that nation and bloodline from a lot of harm that would come from just doing whatever their imperfect flesh desired sexually.
Many could have been predisposed to not only wanting to have sex with same sex,but also children, relatives and animals. Nations around them practiced all of that and then some and God was simply protecting his people from the resulting misery of lawlessness on that level.
My concern is not why and how Leviticus came about. What matters is that biblical laws such as Leviticus have been used over thousands of years (and are still being used) to stigmatize, marginalize, criminalize and erase LGBT people in the United States and around the world.
“Coming out” is a relatively recent phenomenon for LGBT people. For most of recorded human history, an LGBT person had to pretend to be something he/she wasn’t or pay a heavy price. The price could be anything from being cast out from among his own family/community to death. It wasn’t until June, 2003 that the U.S. Supreme Court declared all sodomy laws unconstitutional. Prior to that, consenting adults in the US could be arrested and thrown in jail in some states just for having consensual homosexual sex. Sodomy laws were a direct result of laws like Leviticus (20)(13) as is the proposed so-called “Kill the Gays Bill” in Uganda.
The other thing is that the bible encourages “believers” to look at homosexuality as the worst sin. Christians usually deny this but it’s true. Devout Christians often call homosexuality an “abomination” indicating that it is somehow worse than other “sins” whether sexual in nature or not. Other sins involving consensual heterosexual activity are not referred to as abominations. Homosex was once so “abominable” that it was the so-called “crime that dare not speak its name”.
I encourage black gay men, especially those who consider themselves “religious” to think critically about every aspect of their religious belief system(s). Don’t take anything you were taught about homosexuality at face value. The bible has been translated many times over thousands of years from ancient languages that are no longer spoken so the original intent of the scripture in question may have been lost over time and space.
This is America, 2015. Our rights as Americans are based on the U.S. constitution, not the bible. This country is not a theocracy (like a muslim country). We here in America can exercise our free will. We can make good or bad decisions in the sexual realm. Of course, if everyone was sexually pure when they married (and same sex marriage is now legal in all 50 states) and never cheated on their spouses there would be no sexually transmitted diseases but that scenario has never existed and never will. You have options as a “free” person in America to make choices that will help you or hurt you. That’s the joy and pain of living in a “free” society.
I am an agnostic but I want the message to be that if you are a gay/homosexual/same gender loving individual who needs to be “churched”, don’t go to “traditional” fundamentalist/evangelical churches that tell you that being a homosexual is an “abomination” and that you will burn in the hottest place in hell for it. Consider a gay church or if that’s too much for you to handle consider a “gay friendly” church. Google gay friendly churches in your area to find a gay affirming church that might meet your needs. Church going should be a holistic experience, not some place where you feel disconnected as if your very being is dirty and just flat out wrong. Attend a church that affirms who you are. That just sounds like common sense to me. Finally, take what you can use and ditch the rest.
I totally agree with you on all points. Not only Leviticus but much of the bible in general has been used by others to tear people down. That is not its purpose. And scripture indicates that God is holding an accounting for that. He is just as upset about that as your are and mainstream Christianity is prohrecied to suffer the worst of the fall in the future .
So the Bible itself agrees with ALL that you bring up. That law of capital punishment was for a particular group in a certain time period.
True Christianity is all about voluntarily raising your consciousness on moral issues. And it’s indicated throughout the New Testament that it’s a PROCESS. “Personalities” metaphorically “robes” aren’t washed and made white instantly. Try that in your state ofthe art washing machine. It just doesn’t happen. And God knows this.
Biblically, homo sex is not he worst sin. It’s no worse than heterosex outside of marriage. Same penalties of capital punishment applied even in Leviticus. To the degree that even if a woman didn’t scream while being raped ,she was held accountable.
Rants about homo sex being the worst sin speak more of the insecurities of that particular heterosexual than anything else. In fact Romans condemns “unnatural use of the female” amongst heteros. Eliminating anal sex for everyone for reasons that are biologically and energetically obvious.
Finally, Jesus said my sheep know my voice. Your closing advice is perfect. If it’s not sounding right. Doesn’t have a tone of love. Keep it moving!
Sincerely pray to God to lead you to well watered pastures. If someone is really wanting love, they’ll get it figured out in due time You’ll be sensitive to your trials and errors with things. And your eyes will open to changing the paradigm on a few things. All the while being guided and lead to a safe place. It’s all about awareness and really wanting truth in regards to what you claim to believe in.
I have to raise the bullshit flag on your entire line of thinking. You start from the faulty premise that there is god. There is no verifiable physical, historical, or scientific evidence to back up such an outlandish claim, the Bible is NOT evidence. It is merely the superstitions and myths of the ancient middle-east translated by Europeans during the Romans empire up until medieval period. Next you erroneously conclude the Abrahamic god of Torah, Bible, and Qur’an is real. Again there is nothing to back up anything in the Bible. The only reason you are Christian is because that’s what you we’re told to believe and you haven’t even thought critically about the nonsense, cruelty, and stupidity contained in that book which can be explained with two words, magic and barbarism. There is also no reason to accept Jesus(Yeshua) was the son of god(Yahweh). There is no record of such a person existing, but even if he did exist he was just a man. As a matter of fact the idea that god would have a son is the antithesis of monotheism. The Jewish concept of the messiah was a man NOT a god. The purpose of the messiah was to free Israel from Roman rule not save the human race from “sin”(a dubious concept). The messiah wasn’t meant to let non Jews into Yahweh’s Hebrews only club. Those are all lies made up by the early Roman church. The purpose of the cult of Jesus was to prop up and give legitimacy European monarchies and to make black people weak, docile, subservient, cowards that would comply with slavery and white supremacy. I reject your theology. It has no basis in fact and it is obsolete in the modern age. People have learned a great deal since the bible was written. The fact that people still think this mythology is real or relevant would be amusing if the results weren’t so tragic especially for gay people.
All I can do is encourage you to investigate what the Bible teaches a little further. You have done your research I see on some things. You do see how the Bible has been used against people that for one reason or another couldn’t read and study it.

I’ve read the Bible multiple times. Reading it cover to cover for the first time when I was 25 years old(I’m now 38) is what lead me to become an atheist. There was just no way I could continue to believe the absurdities I read. It also raised more questions than answers. The Bible also showed me how limited and lacking in imagination god really is. He behaves the way an ancient man would especially in the OT. There are no spirits, ghosts, angels, demons, magic, or supernatural realm. There is just the physical universe, and that’s ok. That’s nothing to fear or feel lost about. The world and the universe is filled with wonders and mysteries. I don’t have all the answers, nor does science have all the answers but striving to learn is a worthy endeavor and much more productive than pretending to have all the answers from a so-called holy book. The certainty provided by religion is self deception at it’s finest. Finally things are not getting worse for humanity as whole. Humans have never lived longer, been more numerous, or been more prosperous than in history. That is thanks to science and technology. Do we have problems and challenges, yes. The climate, overpopulation, resource scarcity and income disparity are good examples of current challenges but I’m confident science, technology, and rational thought can solve them. Reliance on mythology will not nor has it ever. Religion didn’t give us agriculture, vaccines, antibiotics, motor vehicles, aircraft, skyscrapers, spaceflight, computers, mobile phones, refrigeration, air conditioning or any of the things we take for granted. Science made those things possible. The major problem I see for us as black people we’ve allowed ourselves to distracted and held hostage by mythologies that aren’t even ours which has caused us to waste time bludgeoning gay people and other unproductive concerns instead of focusing on more productive pursuits.

I don’t try to explain paranormal activity. I’ve seen programs on the subject and even the so called “experts” can’t explain it. “Demonic possession” can easily be chalked up to mental illness. There was a time before modern medicine when people thought diseases both physical and mental were the result “sin” or demons. We now know these are physiological problems. Actually was conditioned to be a believer like most people. I grew going to church and was programmed to believe in god, Jesus, and Christian dogma without question. The reason why supernatural themes are so prevalent in pop culture is many people are still frightened by that stuff when they shouldn’t be. Fear is a powerful motivator. What religions do is use fear to manipulate and coerce people into submission. I refuse to cowed by mythology. I refuse to be manipulated, hustled, or pimped. That’s what Christianity and all religions do, they manipulate people. I choose rationality over fear. If there is one true god he shouldn’t be so many religions. If god is real he should be able to speak for himself. I find it dubious that this so called god always need humans to speak for him. Funny as I recall the Bible explicitly forbids consulting fortune tellers, palm readers, psychics, mediums, the occult etc. Leviticus 20:27 and Deuteronomy 18:10-13. A Ouija board is fake. It’s no more powerful than a Monopoly board. There is no credible evidence to suggest the Giza pyramids predate the Egyptian empire. That’s almost as laughable as ancient aliens built the pyramids. Purpose is the key word. As a believer I understand clearly that we were DESIGNED with a PURPOSE. Biologically ,psychically, spiritually there is purpose in our design.

In the Bible Jesus made it very clear that after his death and that of the apostles an apostasy would creep into the congregation and spread. And be allowed to remain for a time period. During which you wouldn’t be able to distinguish true believers in Christ true teachings from the false. So believers are very aware of the existence of false Christianity. And it says God is going to hold that particular segment of Babylon even more accountable. Mainstream Christianity in its many forms will receive the worst of the foretold judgement ahead because of taking the lead in misrepresenting God. It’s all in Revelation and the gospels. I understand as a believer I am under the law of LOVE. The metaphysical principles of Christ found largely in the Sermon on the Mount teach me to love my neighbor as myself.

I love Him by obedience and therefore I am loving ME.
I love myself and not potentially harm myself and others by aspiring to the the SEXUAL moral standards of scripture. Difficult but achievable. I will not die without sex. I will be uncomfortable without feeling love. But nowhere is that condemned. Operating within design empowers me to give and receive even more genuine LOVE.
There is nothing whatsoever wrong with LOVING another man. The question is just how deep is that supposed love, IF in fact it can be said it IS LOVE if I am choosing to operate sexually outside of purpose and design in spite of my leanings to do so?
Not having sex with my neighbor in no way short changes me on the love I can give him or her. As a believer I am simply respecting our design on multiple levels.
If we all did this as a human society there’d simply be far less misery to deal with in society. Less heartbreak, diseases, violence, broken families. The list goes on. I wanted to reference your comment on repeated ‘repentance. I feel you on that. But once I learned this I got a clearer ‘God ‘ perspective.
Proverbs 24:16 says, “For the righteous one may fall seven times,and he will get up again, but the wicked will be made to stumble by calamity”
It’s a race to life. A journey. God says righteous ones can end will fall many times. But the key is getting up. Figuring out what went wrong. What more exercises, vitamins , supplements, on a spiritual level you may need for endurance. Or what stones on the road you need to be on the look out for.
Wanting to get up just shows you still have a conscience on the moral issue. And those times you get just may protect you from harm. I can attest to that. Many times along my zig zag , falling down and getting up path I was spared ALOT of misery when my conscience kicked in before I went there with someone . Or just when I simply decided to slow my hoeish ways down. Or simply abstain. I avoided messing around deeply with many an ill person. I owe much of the misery I have been spared health wise and emotionally for listening to God at those moments.
The key is pulling it together in spiritually, metaphysically “athletic” sense while there is time. The race isn’t over. We can fall down and get up. God gives us permission. Just stay willing to train.

As a side note, the major reason I believe in the bible is because of its prophetic accuracy. Especially that of religion being set up to be destroyed right there in Revelation. It’s all playing itself out on CNN. This is my motivation to check where I’m at spiritually, because I can perceive what is going on clearly.
I think you fall into trap of false equivalence. To say “both sides are guilty” just doesn’t ring true. There is no nice way to say “I don’t believe in your god” “I don’t believe in your prophet” or “I reject your theology.” Just saying those honest words causes many believers offense. I no longer worry about causing offense in this matter because religion is idea and ideas are fair game for criticism even ridicule when they are worthy of those things. I also find many believers to be masters of cherry picking, self deception, self loathing(this especially true of gay believers) and hypocrisy. I can’t think of one so called Christian who really follows what’s in the bible. Hell, following much of the bible now would get someone arrested. That said if someone wants to believe that’s their business however I reserve the right to question even criticize such beliefs especially when they don’t make sense. I understand why the bulk of the parishioners in black churches are women and gay men. Both populations are easily manipulated by emotionalism.

I’m with you, Bro. I criticize religion (mine as well as others) constantly. I’ve never been one to accept anything blindly, much to a lot of others’ chagrin. But I believe that’s how Mankind should operate, question everything. Only then will you ever be able to truly understand, or hope to understand, how something works. I’m really into documentaries about the history of different nations (unfortunately I can’t find any good ones on West African Nations) and the shit that is taught in the bible in relation to what really went down in a lot of those places can obviously been seen as political propaganda covered over with religious doctrine. But, when one doesn’t analyze the situation but instead believes that ex. The Tower of Babel (and Babylon in general) was destroyed because the people were trying to build a tower to reach heaven (not to mention this is supposedly why there are different languages in the world smh), and not by it’s own political devices, then one will continue to wander in darkness. And it’s not just the Abrahamic Practices (which I loath as well), ALL religions attribute mythological events to explain/ cover up/ or subtly alter shit that REALLY went down, for whatever reasons. In my practice, there are a lot of religious stories recanted, but when you actually sit and investigate the origins of them and the history of those places, you can easily see the politics that influenced the stories and the “lesson” being conveyed through them, if there is one at all. Lot of people in my practice like to bask in the mythology and “magic”, and fantastical stories of Lukumí, I personally don’t have time for it. It keeps one from effectively traversing the real world. I’m more interested in the real world events that brought about the mythologies, rather than mythology dictating real world events.
The tower of Babel story is one my favorite whoppers from the bible because it’s so gloriously absurd. So god had a problem with this ancient tower but he doesn’t have problem with modern skyscrapers, airplanes, rockets, spaceflight, or satellites. Humans are going to BELIEVE in something. We are wired for that. If we oppressed blacks all became atheists such as yourself we are still back to the same situation. Everyone being their OWN god. From a spiritual standpoint this is the situation we already have and have been enduring as a society . And it’s a mess.

I know what I said and didn’t say. I never said ()I was a true Christian. Actually I never said I was anything. I do study the Bible. And on observation there is false Christianity so my personal objective is to use the Bible as a compass to direct me to where Christ teachings as I’m am studying in the bible are truly taught and practiced. Believe it or not I’m not playing a “semantics game” I’m just trying to make sense of what you’re telling me. So if you’re not a “true Christian,” whatever that is, how can you tell me what true Christianity is? Lot’s of people think they’re true Christians and they all can come up with reasons why other forms of Christianity are false so how is your definition of true Christianity any more valid than say, the Pope, the WBC, the KKK, the Christian identity movement, the Church of England, Baptists, Universalists, Jehovah’s Witnesses, COGIC, Mormons, etc? I reiterate ther is NO silver bullet for the problems we as black people face both in the USA and worldwide. I’ll define “silver bullet” noun, a bullet made of silver, a magical method for killing werewolves. A simple seemingly magical solution to a complicated problem. Now that we know what we’re talking about onto the solution 1: stop believing magic and mythology. These beliefs are unproductive, they breed superstitions, fear, cowardice, complacency, and irrational thinking and behaviors. 2: education, learn practical knowledge science, math, history, skills or a trade etc. 3: Economic development, get a job, create a job, learn to manage money, keeping the wealth we accumulate amongst ourselves and our own families. 4, solidarity, black people should stop wasting time and energy opposing each other over silly things like demonizing gay people for example. We should be focusing our efforts on collective self defense, political power(controlling our own communities). As far as true Christianity Jesus said “seek and you shall find” . It’s a process of elimination and connecting the dots using the bible as your guide. What’s more interesting is that more than likely biblical truth will come to you. It will just have to resonate with you. You have to want biblical truth. It has to matter to you. No cherry picking.
Yes I’ve drawn my own conclusions through my studies. But this is not the forum to divulge that. I trust in the process for each individual. Scripture says its God himself that draws the person. Jesus also said my sheep know my voice. So it very individual and personal. You can’t be stuck in medieval doctrine and accept accurate knowledge. The good news will have a ring of truth to a real truth seeker. (According to the Bible there is a truth)
On black people. Blacks of the diaspora by and large are extremely damaged on a spiritual level. The self hate on a family level is the biggest issue to be dealt with. Slavery left us this legacy. Strong families are the basis for strong nations. Would you agree that you have to love and respect “yourself” in order to do that to another person?

And all of this involves adopting MORALS. If everyone is their own God on morals we are back at square one and will stay ….HERE.
You can’t have DL brothers running around. Or dudes proud to be a baby daddy 3-4 times over. We can’t be glorifying pimp-like Jay Zs and Hoe-like Beyoncés. Being entertained by the likes of Empire and thinking all of that is ok. The drama, backstabbing, lies , infidelity. This is all about morals. And without moral structure there is little cohesiveness in family.
All this has to be LEARNED AND APPLIED FIRST before anything on your list can succeed.
And NO the government is NOT interested in Instilling those values in Blacks. They are all to content to see us destroy ourselves . And set up systems to promote that.
We are our biggest enemies with what we entertain ourselves with via music and how we choose to sellout and rep ourselves on the screen. We teach our children how to spend money , not make money. We rather go to church to sing and dance than to really study the word. We are caught up in “feeling good”.
But this is all a choice.
Worse , our slave culture is being packaged and sold worldwide,,,, by design. Slave mentality creates more slaves globally. With chaotic lives due to the lack of moral fortitude ,you are more easily CONTROLLED.
Control out of chaos.
This is why the Catholic Church for example forbade birth control . That’s not in the bible. But having more children than you can afford engenders poverty for generations. Maintaining a subclass , the fuel of capitalism. They also say priest can’t marry. The bible also directly opposes that view. So the priesthood attracts pedophiles and such. Creating more emotional traumatized individuals.
But unfortunately with all that corruption and lack of spiritual truth people still lend support. Although of course a lot less, as is prophesied, but the damage has been done.
If people just read the book well and not blindly follow they can set themselves free from SPIRITUAL OPPRESSION.
This is the root of black problem. We have to start with morals and stop adopting the pagan ways of the oppressor.

Babylon was one of MANY ancient cities that was akin to modern day New York in terms of cultural diversity. There were already multiple languages being spoken there before the tower was built. Why people continue to believe GOD “confused the languages” when there were ALREADY MULTITUDES of languages being spoken there and throughout the world, is beyond me.
The Tower of Babel story in the plains of Shinar was in a time not too many generations after the great flood. Long before the kingdom of Babylon I think you are speaking. Different time and era.

The wars of the Old Testament were for a different time and place. Satan didn’t want the promised seed of love to come through Abraham as foretold . So all the wars were to defend and preserve that bloodline.

I think it’s cool to have this insight on what’s coming and watch it play out and choose which side I’m on. I hate being blindsided. And being aware of what’s going on in the spiritual realm and how it affects me is crucial to my decision making. It keeps you ahead of the game. It’s intriguing if not almost fun to guess what’s going to happen next. Like Obama staying in office past 2 terms. Or terrorist attacks in the coming Olympics in Brazil. Once you know the real players in the game and their objectives you get a better sense of where we are in the stream of time . Just do your research . The story of the Tower of Babel where the languages were confused took place in a different time and place than where the ancient world power Babylon (modern day Iraq) is today.

I think you’ve been watching too many YouTube videos. You asked in another comment if I find this amusing. I do find this is very entertaining. I love listening to conspiracy theories about 1 world government, chemtrails, the illuminati, “the gay agenda,” 9/11 was an inside job, among other things. It’s almost like talking to someone with paranoid schizophrenia. The the plots are always convoluted and complex with many hidden moving parts. I haven’t been this entertained in quite some time. There is no grand conspiracy there so much chaos and disorder in the world it’s impossible or at least highly unlikely that scenario you talk about is true. There are too many competing and opposing interests in the world such a thing to be plausible. But it is fun listening to the theories though. The chemtrails theory is one my favorites. It involves collusion between Boeing, Airbus, GE, Pratt&Whitney, Rolls Royce, the US government, the EU, the EPA and many other parties to spray chemicals in the atmosphere for Geo engineering, and social engineering projects. Absolutely hilarious.

The theme of the bible is the kingdom of God,,, good news. Fear mongering info and focus on destruction is not a good motivator. I don’t approach my spirituality from a state of fear. I approach it with hope for better things to come.
On the other hand I’m very aware of the unseen enemies tactics and this enables me to defend myself spiritually against him. I don’t want to be blindsided. I really want to see what the future has in store very long term . I enjoy living. And if there is the oppurtunty to live forever in a new age , I want to participate.
