only for the sake that they would have the ability to have sex legally because all sex unless it is a visit by a married spouse is illegal.
I say sure! Why not? But they more than likely won’t get the support of many men in a place LIKE PRISON!!!
If a story breaks in the news about that, I will be VERY surprised that two men in prison would get married.
Great question to pose, Ocky. I think it’s one of the federal statutes that need to be reviewed due to the SCOTUS decision on DOMA. At the very least, they should be able to be married in a federal penal institution located in a right to marry state!
This is an excellent question. Of course this will have to be answered very soon. As is usually the case some inmate will challenge prison authorities as the law stands right now men can be divorce from and be married to the opposite sex while in prison. This is going to be interesting. A usual I wholeheartedly support men in prison being allowed to marry.
Forgive me for sounding ignorant but what would be the reason for them to get married? from my understanding even though homosexual sex is prevalent in the prison community, it’s still also frowned upon by inmates and staff alike.
“Forgive me for sounding ignorant but what would be the reason for them to get married?”
Because they are in love perhaps?
Isn’t marriage one of those privileges similar to voting that you lose while in prison? I can’t imagine why two people in prison would need or could benefit from marriage.
Nope…women marry men while they are in prison all the time. Also there are many states that allow convicted felons to vote who are no longer in prison. Georgia being on of them….but most states don’t.
Well, I am one that believes in 2nd chances and all the good shit, I feel while in prison, you have lost your rights to be apart on society and practice in regular daily activities that citizens, so I do not think men in prison should be allowed to get married whether gay or str8. If these men love each other enough, they can get married once they are no longer incarcerated.
nope. prison is a place for you to think about whatever it is you did to get you there in the first place, not a romantic getaway. IF, and only IF there were a situation to where they could get married, they should wait until they are both released.
That’s just plain ole ignorant. Sometimes you just wander did this people make it to the 12th grade or are they just perpin’? It’s disgraceful. You don’t even know if they committed the crime or not. “The master’s ice is colder.” In other words you don’t even believe your own brother, but you take somebody else’ word for his conviction. I feel so put upon with this nonsense. I really do.
I presume you are talking about State and Federal prisons as there are a lot of people that are in ‘prison’ right as we speak. For me there is but one answer to this question- YES- it is a human right for anyone who wants to marry and call someone their partner/lover/wife/husband for life. We can’t cherry pick who gets married and who doesn’t. It is human nature to love. So it is with marriage. From love breeds marriage. In prison you get total security. You are fed, clothed, given medical care and so on. The only thing lacking… is freedom, and the freedom to love who you want. Let love be free
Not while they in prison no
yes. just the same as str8 people in prison
