Earlier this week were we sent a television pilot sizzle trailer by up-and-coming screenwriter Benjamin Cory Jones. The pilot trailer (consisting of 5 short cleverly edited scenes) was directed by Anthony Hemingway (Red Tails) and produced by Lena Waithe (Dear White People). The pilot stars Kevin Philips (Pride, Red Tails), Dijon Talton (Glee) and Tuffy Questell.
Official Synopsis:
Bros Before Hos is a show about three African-American brothers, two straight and one gay, as they’re all navigating their love lives and screwing shit up along the way.
While I do feel that the overall premise needs a lot more dimension and fleshing out, I will say that this is a great looking, well produced trailer. The depicted cast looks talented and attractive…both key factors to generate interest.
No other details were sent to us so I have no idea if this is meant to be a web series, network series or streaming series. Given the production quality and names attached, I doubt they’d be satisfied living in obscurity on the web.
Check out the trailer and let us know what you think.

“You get arrested”…wow! I’ve never heard that one before. Seems like an interesting watch. I’d more than likely watch it as a movie, but not so much as a series. Also, the title doesn’t seem to fit to me though. I need to see a lil bit more depth to the storylines to make that mantra relevant to this body of work.
Kudos to the producer for showing young black men embracing and loving their brother’s sexuality or “alternative lifestyle” as they usually call it. Usually if brothers accept their brother as a gay/bi man they don’t like to get into the sexual details, but in the trailer the bigger brother had no problem discussing sex toys and assisting the younger brother in dating guys. Not entirely realistic at present, but maybe more so in the future (I hope). I’m wondering what demographics the producers are trying to reach. I only see LBGTQ and straight women watching this. Though it’s bros b4 hos, straight men will probably not be tuning in.
Great observations and feedback but IDK. Dysfunctional Str8 black relationship, gay relationship and interracial relationship. It has almost all of the black taboo type relationships covered so it might pull in str8 and gay audiences.
Hmm…agreed. It has the potential to have something for everyone. Though I think at least ONE fine woman needs to be added to the cast so str8 guys would consider watching. I’ve seen more attractive women than those two at the post office. 🙁
I’m actually anxious to see this. Looks a little bit different than the typical black, gay, shock value, chitterling circuit stuff presented over the internet.
It’s refreshing to see some good acting in shows/programming featuring our people. I’m sick of seeing programs that are based more on the believability of a character than the portrayal of that character through the acting. I think that show will cater to a select group of individuals, but depending on who that group is and powerful their word of mouth is will determine the fate of Bros B4 Hos. The writing is pretty spot on too…
I agree, this looks good and well acted, I going to give this series a try.
I’m very excited for this series! Bring it on.
I am intrigued at their use of popular music as opposed to more of the hip-hop music in the trailer. Also at how the characters are written and how their personalities are. The creators seems to me like they’re trying to appeal to a larger demographic as opposed solely the “urban” market even though all the characters are African-American.
This looks really interesting! I’ll definitely have to see how it goes.
How he get his “tinder” profile to look like that??? Wow this looks like very quality and very forward thinking, I dig it!
congrats! looks great.
I really like this concept and I like the body of work that these two creators have come up with during their careers. They truly believe in not showing African-Americans in a stereotypical light unlike many African-American Filmmakers today.
Unfortunately, we may never see this show because in the trailer it says that it is a “pilot presentation”, which means that they are attempting to sell this project to a network. The plan is not for it to be a web series or movie, but become a sitcom series on a television network.
Aside from LOGO, I do not see any other network (especially an African-American one picking this up. HBO might be a good fit for this show because they just bought two African-American web series, “The Misadventures of the Awkward Black Girl” and “The Couple.” HBO is a big supporter of SGL content and they could make the series racier by adding nudity.
I wish these creators the best because they are doing great work. I will post the trailer of one of the creators that is headed for the big screen in October that we should support this weekend.
It’s interesting. Different take on how the gay character is typically utilized in television/ webisode series. If they get the characterizations and the story arcs down, this could have some legs. Hard to tell if it’s episodic or serial. But the stakes are always a lot higher for black shows in general. If you don’t get good Nielsen numbers the first season, you’re done. I don’t care who’s name is endorsing your show. Black shows don’t get to fail up the way white shows do. But this is a refreshing perspective. Looking forward to seeing the first episode.
I see what you mean about wondering how this is going to work as a web series. It almost seems too good. I wonder if it was intended for television,or if it will be pay per view.
I may be the only person that didn’t find the trailer the least bit funny. Maybe I’m just uptight. I’m not sure how they were planning to pitch it to tv with a name like “bros before hos” though.
Yeah I’m not overly enthused either. It looks great as a trailer but there’s not much of a show or premise here, based on the trailer and synopsis submitted. It looks too good for a web series and its not fleshed out enough to be a television series.
Nice looking guys.
I did appreciate the fact that the gay brother wasn’t popping his boi pussy n stuff lol
You must have missed the 1:15 mark….
Was I giving them too much credit? I took that as a joke in response to the dude saying he didn’t ‘seem’ gay. But either way, you know what I meant lol.
The project has potential. I’d definitely give it a chance. Hopefully, they will develop the characters a bit more.
?????????? engaging, well produced, not white washed or Queen washed., I’ll be watching
