I asked myself “what is the true reason they would not be willing to share their secret with at least some of their close friends and family”.
No I am not talking about having a “coming out” party or wearing your sexuality on your sleeve but sharing a part of your life with your mother, brother or a close uncle for example. I mean finally having an honest response to the questions of “when are you going to get married and have kids”?
Yes I understand that there is fear of ridicule, feelings of shame or embarrassment but what is driving the perceived potential reactions of those close to these men? Making them fearful, apprehensive and preventing them from being more open?
For me religion is at the root these feelings. I feel religion and more importantly what people believe and perceive about homosexuality when it concerns religion is what drives them to act and react negatively to sexuality.
My Questions are…
If religion was not a factor, do you feel society would be more open to homosexuality?
What do you feel is preventing you from being more open to those close to you?

yes religion is a big road block,if you have been taught that the only way you can be right with the creator and the universe is to be heterosexual then it effect your ability to even have a relationship with your self that is not self loathing, like feeling guilt for just being who you are. if you don’t think God loves you because you are gay, you can not even be right with having a gay relationship nor right with your self. that extend to a system of self hate that says ” because i am gay i do not deserve to have a relationship so i will put up an impossible list so no man will ever be good enough and thus can opt out of ever getting serious about finding a soul mate. yeah it make a whole lot of difference if you can’t get your head around God loves you and if you have a gay BOO , God loves us as we are!! not to mention hate generate from churches that indirectly generates violence that effects gays. but maybe that is too much information.
He who feeds you with religion controls your mind. Religion is set up by , for and through mankind. If you are a part of any religious order then you will be affected by being yourself because the life you live is not yours but the ‘church”. Religion is what keeps the poor from murdering the rich, and the straight person from murdering the gay person…RIGHT THERE IN THE CHURCH! Be yourself and true to yourself. Don’t let anyone define you. Those persons close to you will never need to know anything more than just that. Who you sleep with is no body’s business.
I think al ot of people are just homophobic, and they think religion is confirmation them as just,in other words,it’s an excuse for their hatred and discomfort. If people were truly were opposed to all unrighteous behavior our entertainment industry wouldn’t be thriving and glorified
I think specifically in the blk community being gay is seen as less than manly,or like you failed at being tough or something.Church folks who gossip, drink in excess, and adulterate only quote Leviticus to be like “see, the Bible says Im right”
That’s not to say religion doesnt factor into for many, bcuz im sure lots of people are glad for a chance to play judge and jury. And feeling like you will go to hell for your biological urges will totally screw with your mind ( been there)
To sum it up,if religion wasnt responsible for anti-gay sentiments society would find something else to back it up.
